Dr Sylvia Draper
| Request a workshop |
| | Interests - Sylvia has devoted her working life to the promotion and understanding of Chemistry and teaches it with great effect at all levels, from demonstration lecturers to primary-school children right through to the presentation of cutting-edge innovative research to specialist audiences. She believes that Chemistry research is profoundly important to devising sustainable solutions to global problems and in the health and development of future generations.

Biography Sylvia Draper has been working as a lecturer and then Associate Professor in Trinity College Dublin for the last 15 years. She is Head of Inorganic Chemistry and Synthetic Materials and is passionate about the subject of Chemistry and its communication. Her research involves the synthesis and investigation of novel molecular materials. Many of these are molecular models of graphite and designed specifically to interact structurally with each other in a particular way and/or to transfer energy e.g. via luminescence. As a result the systems have desirable opto-electronic properties and applications e.g. in solar-cells. |

| Dr Michael Seery | Request a workshop |
 | Interests - Laboratory Pedagogy: My aim in laboratory teaching is to encourage active laboratory participation by use of project-based learning, contextualised laboratories and the development of meaningful pre-laboratory work. In addition, valuable laboratory time can be effectively harnessed to develop a wide array of transferable skills.
- E-Learning and Blended Learning: Computers and mobile learning is increasingly impacting higher education and there is a need to develop quality learning resources that engage students in a meaningful way.
