Multi Institutional Survey of usage of Technology Assisted Learning (TAL) and Virtual Learning Environments (VLE).
In early 2008 six Irish tertiary institutions conducted an online survey of their students usage of Virtual Learning Environments in their respective institutions. In early 2009, we plan to rerun the survey to help to develop a longitudinal data set, and we are inviting additional institutions to participate.
The survey used a common set of questions and participating institutions, on condition of anonymity, pooled their results for comparison. The survey data provided each institution with useful information on how their uptake and usage patterns of TAL and VLE compare with other institutions, in a framework which prevented abuse of the findings for marketing or public benchmarking.
This project is open to participation by any educational institution, and is being coordinated by University College, Cork and NAIRTL.
In February 2009, we plan to rerun the survey to help to develop a longitudinal data set.
1) Consider any necessary revisions to the 2008 survey questions
2) Consider any required revisions to the 2008 data sharing guidelines
3) Consider adding a staff survey tool
This work will be carried out by those interesting in being involved in late January 2009, with a view to institutions running the survey in mid February 2009.
